Astrocaryum murumuru is a palm tree found in the Amazon Rainforest of Brazil. It boasts a sturdy trunk and a round, bushy canopy of a treecrown, and its fruits are both edible and a crucial source of food for the local community.
The fibers from the tree are used to weave hammocks and its seeds are processed to make murumuru butter, which is widely used in cosmetics due to its emollient (moisturizing), film-forming, and glossy properties. This butter is rich in vitamins and has a high oleic acid content, and its oil is commonly used to soften and protect hair.
Astrocaryum murumuru comes from the tropics of the Amazon Jungle. Interested in seeing what other fruits are found there? Check out my favorite fruit Duguetia stenantha, or look at our whole collection!
