The jaboticaba cultivar known as Plinia aureana "Branca Lisa, Vilela Collection C16" was possibly obtained from a nursery in Limeira, Sao Paolo state, Brazil in the 1980s. However, it is now more commonly associated with being tree number C16 in the Vilela collection, which is the main source of seeds and scions.
The name refers to the smooth white skin of the fruit, which sets it apart from other varieties. The mother tree is over 50 years old and stands at a height of 3-4 meters. While some sources suggest it is native to the highest regions of Zona da Mata in Minas Gerais and the arboreal restingas of Espírito Santo, it is mostly found in cultivation.
The fruit has a smooth and thin yellowish-green rind when ripe and has a sweet flavor with no acidity. The peel is also flavorful and can be used in jams and liqueurs. This cultivar can be grown in pots and has subglabrous fruits.
