Pourouma cecropiifolia, also known as Amazon grape, Amazon tree-grape, or uvilla (syn. P. multifida), is a species of Pourouma native to the western Amazon Basin in tropical South America.
This medium-sized evergreen tree grows to a height of 20 meters, with palmately compound leaves that have 9-11 leaflets, 10-20 cm long and 2.5-4 cm wide, on a 20 cm stalk that joins a leaf to a stempetiole. The white flowers are produced in clusters of 20 or more in a 10 cm long flowers of a plantinflorescence and the tree is male and female reproductive organs in separate individuals - you need 2 (male and female) for fruitdioecious.
The fruit of the Pourouma cecropiifolia is resembling an eggovoid, 1-2 cm long, and turns purple when ripe. It has a grape-like flavor but a wintergreen aroma, and the skin is rough but easily peeled and inedible. The fruit is enjoyed either fresh or made into juice.
